16 Things Only BUE-ians Will Understand

Many people may think they know a great deal about the BUE, but only a true BUE-ian knows what goes on behind those fancy campus gates. Here are a couple of things every BUE-ian can probably relate to.

    1. Morning Buses

    4

When you’re literally 10 seconds late to your bus in the morning and you see your bus leaving so you frantically run after it until you eventually lose hope and have to switch to Plan B. Now you have to find a taxi at 7am AND agree on a meeting point with the bus driver. What a great start to the day.

    2. 9-11am lectures got you like…

    5

We are just not made to function before 12 PM.

    3. Beano’s

    6

When you found out they closed the old Beano’s so now you have to go all the way to the library or the food court for your morning coffee. Yay.

    4. On the other hand, the opening of Papa John’s was indescribable happiness

    7

Should I go broke, gain weight and walk all the way to the food court just for pizza? I think yes.

    5. 3am 3ali

    8

AKA the random store between the rubbles next to Gate 2. Admit it, you were a bit suspicious of the place when you first saw it, but by now you’ve probably made friends with everyone working there. Your visits to 3am 3aly are inversely proportional to the amount of money you have. Until this very day, no one really knows who 3am 3aly actually is. (Oh, the mystery)

    6. Shabrawy

    2

I.e. where 90% of your money goes to. You’ve memorized their menu by heart whether you intended to or not. One of the basic rules you learn as a BUE-ian regarding Shabrawy: Do not come anywhere near Shabrawy at 4 PM or else risk being trampled over.

    7. Buildings G and H

    9

You can tell you’re close to these two buildings if you can smell a combination of tobacco and perfume. In other words, the two buildings that have “nas a3deen bara el wa2t kolo” and an irrational amount of couples. COUPLES EVERYWHERE.

    8. When the Doctor is late and you think the lecture is cancelled, but then he shows up

    10

    9. Tutorials either end too early or span out beyond their time slot

    11

Depending on your TA throughout the semester, you’ll either suffer continually or you’ll get an extra half an hour of free time.

    10. The number of Fs you get increases as you get older

    12

The sooner you accept this fact, the better.

    11. Study Area

    13

If a BUE-ian ever decided to study on campus, the last place they would probably go to ironically, is the “study area”. Used for anything but studying, the study area is a great place for you to hang out with your friends and maybe catch up on a few shows or watch a couple of movies while you’re at it.

    12. “Gbti daraga kwayesa 3ashan enti bent”

    14

If you’re a female BUE-ian, I can almost guarantee you’ve heard this sentence more than a couple of times by now.

    13. Flies!

    16

I think it’s safe to say that 75% of all the flies in Egypt are located in our university. There is no running away, wherever you are and wherever you go, if you are within campus you will be bombarded by a ridiculous amount of flies. I will forever struggle to find a logical reason to this geographical freak of nature.

    14. When you’re walking to a far place on campus and you see a golf cart

    17

    15. Birthdays

    18

You’re walking in peace in campus when you start hearing another “sana 7elwa ya gameel, sana 7elwa ya gameeeeel”. On your average day on campus, you will hear and or see a minimum of one “surprise” birthday party held in either the food court, the study area, the green area or the swimming pool.

    16. You’ve made endless friends and memories in the BUE, the good and the bad. However, no matter how much you complain about it, you wouldn’t trade the time you’ve spent there for the world.
