Since summer is around the corner, it’s time to get your bikini bod ready. Although dieting can be hard, especially when you have certain cravings, these recipes featuring carbohydrate substitutes will keep your stomach happy without dealing with all of those dreaded carbs.

Burgers With Roasted Portobello Mushroom “Buns”

    bun

Burgers are one of those dishes that we were always told to stay away from. However, by substituting the bun for Portobello mushrooms, not only are you still able to enjoy the other perks of the burger, you also get the richness of the mushroom, which will leave you full and satisfied. Although this recipe doesn’t include any meat, you could always add a burger patty to fulfill your cravings.

    Zucchini “Pasta”

    pasta

If you’re ever craving pasta and worried about all the calories in those carbs, try using zucchini as a substitute for the pasta and you will be surprised by how much better you feel once you eat it.

Although you won’t be getting the same starchiness you get from spaghetti or penne, this nutritious alternative is not only good for you, but adds a different unique flavour to the dish. To keep it from getting boring, try changing up the sauces and see how much you can experiment.

    Fried Cauliflower “Rice”

    rice

Rice is a substantial carb that can be used in so many dishes, so if you are able to master this cauliflower rice, not only will you be able to make this amazing fried rice, but pretty much any other dish that involves rice as a base.

    Butternut Squash “Fries”

    fries

Butternut squash is a great substitute for potatoes because it has a similar texture and when its baked, gets sweet and super yummy. With a touch of salt and pepper, you can’t go wrong with them. These fries don’t disappoint. If anything, they are better than normal fries, so give them a try.

    “Taco” Lettuce Wraps

    wraps

Lettuce wraps are the new thing and for good reason. By using lettuce instead of a taco shell, you’re still getting that crispiness without all of the calories. Once you start using lettuce, you’ll forget why you ever used taco shells in the first place.

    Cauliflower “Mac” And Cheese

    mac

This dish is a personal favourite. Although it’s not as healthy as the other options, it still cuts out those carbs that no one wants and still satisfies your appetite. I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who didn’t love mac and cheese and, let’s be honest, everything smothered in cheese has to be good. Always.

    Eggplant “Lasagne”

    eggplant

Eggplant is one of the best vegetables to use as a substitute for carbs and protein. It’s rich and meaty, which makes this lasagne to die for. One slice and you’ll be feeling better then ever.

    Almond Flour “Pancakes”

    pancakes

Pancakes are a weekend brunch must, and just because you’re cutting carbs out of your diet, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a little treat every once in a while. These pancakes allow you to enjoy the fluffiness and deliciousness of pancakes without worrying about eating too many carbs.

    Avocado Chocolate Brownies

    brownies

Although it sounds weird putting avocados in your desserts, it does things you could never imagine. Not only does it make the brownies super fudgy, but it also means that you don’t need to use flour, which – let’s be honest – we know is the devil.

    Quinoa Chocolate Cookies

    cookies

Quinoa is used as a substitute for flour in this recipe, and when you add chocolate and coconut you won’t be able to tell the difference. It’s the perfect sweet treat on the go and you will love how simple the recipe is. Plus, the picture definitely speaks for itself.
